I’m sure you’ve all heard of it, in many cases felt it, embraced it, wished you did it, and always love when it happens to you.
It’s one of those things in life that doesn’t cost much, doesn’t take up a lot of time, promises a favorable outcome, and most often results in a warm smile. The good news is, some are already doing it. In fact, many do it all the time! Some do it and don’t even realize they’re doing it, while others practice it and get better every day.
Go the extra mile!
In my opinion, going the extra mile is one of greatest gifts we all have the power to possess to live a fuller, happier, purpose-driven life.
Like anything in life, “The way in which one perceives things becomes one’s reality!“, so if we pay attention to going the extra mile, exercise it, deliver it with a deep appreciation in gratitude, I truly believe the world would be a much better place.
Going the extra mile might mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. For me, ‘go the extra mile’ means to over-deliver on whatever you are doing in life. Go above and beyond the call, make a difference whenever you can, surprise and delight, and ensure you aim for the smile.
I bet we can all look back and recall with vivid memory a time when someone went the extra mile for us. It may have been a police officer, a doctor, a mother, father, sibling, coworker, or it could have been a total stranger. The fact is, at some point someone took it upon themselves to go the extra mile for you, and you are better because of it.
For me, I will never forget my Grade 6 teacher, Miss Mcisaac. She was an awesome teacher, and despite my countless excuses of not doing my homework, she went the extra mile for me. She steered my life. Instead of ignoring me, sending me to detention, or worse, sending me to the principal’s office, she took it upon herself to go the extra mile. She spoke to me with empathy, care and love. She believed in me, told me she would not give up on me, and that she knew I would do great things in life. I will never forget her words, the look in her eyes, and the way she made me feel.
There are countless other moments in my life, and I’m sure there are in yours, where someone took it upon themselves to go the extra mile and we are better because of it.
At Roma, ‘go the extra mile” is synonymous with our mission to Move, Inspire and WOW! I’m blessed to be surrounded by people who embody what it means; who attempt it at every step, and know intuitively that going the extra mile always leaves someone in a happier place!
So, go the extra mile today. However big or small. Not only will it leave someone else feeling awesome, it often leaves you in a better place!
And onward we go!
